KTM 690 Duke Overview
The Austrian bike model, KTM 690 Duke will come as an improvement to the original Duke with an all round performance and looks, besides carrying a Euro IV compliant engine. The chassis of this refurbished machine would comprise of a power coated Chromium-Molybdenum steel trellis frame that will sport two new graphic styles. The chassis will garner a light weight of 149.5 Kg and a superb power to weight ratio resulting in better fuel efficiency. Also, a die-cast high quality swingarm will lend better stability. It will ride on a 690cc liquid cooled single cylinder 4 stroke petrol drivetrain that would yield a maximum power output of 68PS at 8500rpm and a six times heightened torque over the previous model. The electric starter engine will come mated to a claw shifted six speed manual transmission gearbox to be hydraulically actuated by an APTC (TM) slipper clutch.
The ride by wire ergonomically designed bike will have wide Aluminium handle bars, a two piece cushy seating arrangement ensconced behind a 141 litre fuel tank. The high speed revving wheels can be brought to an abrupt halt thanks to the presence of Brembo brakes. The front wheel will be attached to a 320mm disc brake backed by a radially mounted four piston fixed brake calliper, and the rear wheel will be attached to a 240mm disc brake backed by single piston floating calliper. The bike will house three driving modes – Sports, Street and Rain, wherein rider can choose any of these through a left handlebar switch gear, alongside possessing features like traction control and Motor Slip Regulation (optional). As the names suggest, choosing any one of the three would alter the engine throttle as well as bring into play the ABS feature. The presence of a dual circuit switchable Bosch ABS mechanism will allow sporty braking while offering protection against over braking.
The bike will have competition in the form of Aprilia Dorsoduro and Ducati Hypermotard.
KTM Duke 690 Expected Performance
KTM 690 Duke can reach a top speed of 195 Kmph and will provide utmost driving comfort due to the presence of three driving modes. Its high ground clearance of 192mm would prevent obstacles such as pebbles, sheets of water, or bumps from hitting the underside. The bike will cushion the rider(s) from potholes or ruts courtesy a 43mm upright tube diameter with a WP upside down fork suspension at the front and a WP shock absorber with Pro-Lever linkage rear suspension.
